The Seattle German American School (SAGA School) is a German Language immersion Preschool and kindergarten.

 We are growing fast! We are seeking full-time preschool teachers for the 2008 - 2009 school year.

 

About SAGA School

The SAGA School is now planning for its fourth year.  We provide a multi-age classroom experience with a balance of ages and developmental levels that aims to serve the individual needs of all our students.  The school day is from 9:30-1:30 and follows the public school calendar.

During the 2008-2009 school year we will serve approximately 24 preschool children (ages 3-4) and 8 kindergarteners (ages 5-6) in a 1:8 teacher/student ratio in our Seattle location. 

 

School Philosophy and Mission

The SAGA School’s purpose is to provide each student with a bilingual education in a nurturing, safe and supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, creativity, and excellence in learning.  By partnering with parents and the community, we strive to develop our students’ self-sufficiency skills, helping them to succeed and contribute responsibly in a global community. A non-profit, the SAGA School is led by a board of parents and community members.

 

Position Description

Our school is looking for caring, enthusiastic, creative preschool teachers, assistants and substitutes.  Successful applicants should be eligible to work in the United States (or willing to work with Amity.org as an exchange teacher) and reflect the following skills and experience:

Cultural

Early Childhood Education

Collaboration

§ Native or near-native German fluency

§ English fluency

§ Appropriately challenge children’s individual German language ability

§ Create an inclusive classroom reflecting the diversity of cultures, religious beliefs and norms within German-speaking communities

§ Creatively introduce elements of German-speaking cultures in a manner which supports classroom objectives

§ Utilize local cultural resources to enhance learning

§ Support a community of children, parents and educators that nurtures natural curiosity and fosters international awareness

§ Prior preschool/ elementary school teaching experience

§ Degree such as BA/AA  from accredited college  (US or other country) in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience.

§ Anti-bias, child-driven, social and emotional approaches to child development

§ Encourage independence, self help, problem solving

§ Respect each child individually, values differences in temperament, interest, personality, etc.

§ Promote self-esteem through specific praise and positive guidance

§ Create an inviting, creative learning environment         

§ Plan curriculum in response to children’s interests

§ Participate in on-going professional development, meetings and activities that promote the SAGA School.

§ Flexible, organized, takes initiative, willing to share ideas          

§ Work respectfully and collaboratively with other teachers, parents, board members and children.

§ Foster cross-cultural understanding amongst members of the SAGA School Community (American, German/ German-speaking countries, Spanish, etc!)

§ Plan & conduct parent conferences in a respectful, constructive manner

§ Communicate daily information with each parent in multiple ways

§ Invite and accept feedback & ideas from staff / board members

§ Maintain a healthy and safe environment

§ Interest and /or expertise in school development
