SAGA's German-Immersion After School Program SAGA After School Program Application Form (PDF) About SAGA's After School Program SAGA offers a mixed-age after school German enrichment program intended for children who are in K-3 grade (in 2009-'10) with strong German language skills. The after school program is led by native speakers Henrica Lajoie and Marie Rubin who are full time trained teachers at SAGA. We also have a rotating parent assistant in the classroom. The program content takes into account that children will have already been in school for 4-6+ hours daily and therefore lays special emphasis on fun ways to focus on German language and culture, and developing a peer group of German speaking children. Reading and writing in German are incorporated into projects and activities as appropriate. Prerequisite German language skills include an ability to understand German well (e.g. be able to understand an age appropriate German storybook) and an ability to speak at least some German. Maximum enrollment per day will be 8 students. With the exception of the art course, the courses are intended for students at approximately the same reading and writing ability. The art course is for a multi-age group. Program Levels Level 1: approximately Kindergarten age, beginning reading and writing Level 2: approximately first grade age Level 3: approximately second to third grade age Schedule Fall Term: Winter Term: Spring Term: Program starts at 3:45pm. 3:45-4:00 pm will be snack and free play time, 4:00-6:00 pm structured activities. No refunds will be offered after classes have started for the semester (except in cases of unusual family hardship or medical illness requiring entire semester withdrawal as determined by SAGA School Registrar). No sibling discount is available for the After School Program. Enrollment Agreement Enrollment commitment is for a single term. Enrollment priority for winter and spring semester will be given to returning fall semester students. If class is cancelled due to teacher absence, refund of $25/class will be given (or credited to subsequent semester’s tuition). If student misses class, a makeup day is not guaranteed, but may be possible with teacher prior approval. If enrollment is insufficient, one or more of the scheduled courses may be canceled and tuition will be refunded in full. Volunteer Requirements Parents are asked to provide snack and assist in classroom on a rotating basis depending on total enrollment (anticipated to be twice per term).
