The Seattle Area German American (SAGA) School is a German Language Immersion School that is growing fast! We are continuously looking for talented teachers and assistants who will help our school grow and inspire our students.

Position Description: Teaching Assistant

Our school is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and creative teaching assistant. Successful applicants should be eligible to work in the United States and reside in the United States.

Your background should reflect the following skills and experience:

Desired Qualifications

    Language and Cultural
  • Native or near-native German fluency
  • English fluency
  • Appropriately challenge children’s individual German language ability
  • Create an inclusive classroom reflecting the diversity of cultures, religious beliefs and norms within German-speaking communities
  • Creatively introduce elements of German-speaking cultures in a manner which supports classroom objectives
  • Utilize local cultural resources to enhance learning
  • Support a community of children, parents and educators that nurtures natural curiosity and fosters international awareness
    Early Childhood Education
  • Experience in teaching or caring for children in a group setting from three to five years of age is required
  • Prior preschool teaching experience is highly desired
  • Degree such as BA/AA from accredited college (US or other country) in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience is a plus, but not required
  • Utilize child-driven, social and emotional approaches to child development
  • Encourage independence, self help, problem solving
  • Respect each child individually, value differences in temperament, interest, personality, etc.
  • Promote self-esteem through specific praise and positive guidance
  • Create a warm, inviting, and creative learning environment
  • Assist teachers in planning a curriculum in response to children’s interests
  • Participate in on-going professional development, meetings and activities that promote the SAGA School
    Collaboration
  • Flexible, organized, takes initiative, willing to share ideas
  • Work respectfully and collaboratively with other teachers, assistants, parents, board members and children
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding amongst members of the SAGA School Community (American, German / German-speaking countries, Spanish, etc.)
  • Assist teachers in planning and conducting parent conferences in a respectful and constructive manner
  • Communicate information to parents in multiple ways
  • Invite and accept feedback and ideas from staff and board members
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment
  • Interest and /or expertise in school development
