Kyri Khouri
Kyri, a German native
who recently moved to Seattle, started teaching in Germany 4 years
ago. After graduating from Kiel University with the Staatsexamen I
and the Magister Artium in English and German literature and German
as a Second Language, she completed her Staatsexamen II with summa
cum laude at a Gymnasium in Schleswig-Holstein, where she taught for
3 years until she moved to Seattle. During her studies Kyri lived
for some time in England, gained teaching experience in elementary
schools in England and Germany and taught German as a Second
language. After having moved to Seattle, she has continued teaching
German as a Second Language at a College, giving private tutoring
lessons and working in day care and setting up a Summer Work and
Travel Exchange Program with an organization in Seattle. Kyri’s
desire has been to return to school in order to be with children. It
is one of the most rewarding jobs for her, because she is able to
present the German culture and German language to children growing
up in Seattle, as well as contributing to the German community. Her
other interests include family, German literature, maintaining a
very active lifestyle and learning foreign languages. Her approach
to life as well as teaching is to live every day as fully as
possible, care for the mind as well as the body and create an
environment that makes living and learning enjoyable and purposeful
in a positive atmosphere. |

encompass German culture. We learn German through play, reading and
writing, celebrating fests and when we get together with other
students during break.” She has been teaching at EGLS since January

Currently, Margarete is teaching our Preschool class in the SAGA

Anna Bellersen
A native of Washington State, Anna learned German
as an exchange student in a small village in the
Rhineland-Palatinate in high school. She majored in German Studies
at Lewis & Clark College in Portland Oregon and studied abroad in
Munich at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität. Anna brings almost 9 years
of experience teaching German and ESL to her job as Preschool
Teacher at the SAGA School, including 2 years at high schools and
community education schools in Austria. She has worked extensively
with children through "Waldsee", the German language camp run by
Concordia Language Village in Minnesota. There she was trained in
immersion earning, theory and practice, worked for 2 years as art
director, has developed camp language curriculum and worked as a
student advisor for student counselor apprenticeships. She also
presented training workshops for other staff and camps.
As her own experience with language began in an
immersion setting, Anna believe that it is the best way to learn a
language, develop an understanding for another culture and encourage
children to be citizens of the world.
In addition to teaching German, Anna teaches
children's Indonesian martial arts classes and has been a student of
the art since 1999.
Anna believes that education is not just "book
learning", and that preschool should be about experiencing the world
around oneself and leaning to be compassionate, curious, engaged,
and creative individuals.
