SAGA COVID Protocol (last updated September 13, 2023)

Isolation protocols at SAGA remain in place in order to ensure our staff are healthy and able to maintain continuity of learning, and to protect those in our community who are especially vulnerable. It is important that we all be mindful of symptoms and testing to help prevent the spread of COVID and other quickly-spreading illnesses. As a general request, please keep your child at home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness that cannot be explained by allergies or other conditions. A reminder of our protocol (note that our policies are subject to change):

If your child tests positive after experiencing symptoms:

A student is welcome to return to school after 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared IF:

  • No fever within the past 24 hours (without medication) AND
  • Symptoms have significantly improved AND
  • The student can wear a well-fitting mask on campus for days 6-10. Starting no sooner than day 6, if a student tests negative on two sequential (back-to-back) tests, each performed 24-48 hours apart, the student can stop wearing a mask before day 10.

If your child tests positive, without experiencing symptoms:

A student is welcome to return to school after 5 days have passed since they first tested positive for COVID IF:

  • The student has not developed symptoms during isolation AND
  • The student can wear a well-fitting mask on campus for days 6-10. Starting no sooner than day 6, if a student tests negative on two sequential (back-to-back) tests, each performed 24-48 hours apart, the student can stop wearing a mask before day 10.

If symptoms develop after testing positive, the 5-day isolation period starts over and the return-to-school guidelines for students experiencing symptoms (listed above) apply.

NOTE: “Day 0” is the first day of symptoms or the first day of testing positive, whichever comes first. “Day 1” is the first full day after symptom development or a positive test.

If you have a COVID-positive case in your household (e.g., siblings, au pair, parents):

A student can return to school immediately as long as:

  • Student continues to remain symptom-free, without the use of medication AND
  • Student can wear a well-fitting mask for 5 days from the time the COVID-positive individual tested positive or their symptoms began AND
  • Student can produce a negative COVID antigen test result throughout the 5-day timeline

If your child has been exposed outside of the home and is symptom-free:

A student may attend school while taking precautions per the WA Department of Health guidance.

In all scenarios, please notify the school office of the situation so that we can send an official “return to school” notification.
